AB 420 Targeting the WIC Gateway for Children's Health
Coverage
Wolk-2007
AB 420 improves upon SB 437 (Escutia 2006) enacted last year, which
created the WIC gateway. The WIC gateway streamlines and expedites
health insurance enrollment for children who are served at local WIC
agencies. AB 420 modifies SB 437 by targeting participation in the
gateway where it will be most effective: WIC sites that serve a larger
number of participants and a high proportion of uninsured participants.
AB 1 (Laird & Dymally) and SB 32 (Steinberg): Providing Health
Insurance to All California Children
AB 1 and SB 32 outline how best to cover all children in the context of
the larger, comprehensive health care reform movement in California. The
well-established policies contained in AB 1 and SB 32 will serve as a
model for the children's coverage section of any larger health reform
bills that move forward. AB 1 and SB 32 also create an express lane
unified enrollment system to streamline and expedite health insurance
enrollment for children served by other public programs, such as the
school lunch, CHDP, and WIC programs.
